Our Story

  • June 20, 2014

    The First Date (Sort Of)

One fateful Friday evening in the summer of 2014, Heather and I were tasked with attending a Maroon 5 concert for work. Fortunately, this plan wound up getting scrapped, and in a makeshift attempt to salvage our night, we organized a work happy hour at New York Wing Factory. None of our friends or co-workers showed up, only us. Over happy hour beers and Korean-fried chicken wings, we discovered that we shared a lot in common. We talked about relationships, indie bands, music festivals, and how we had both studied the same subjects at Rutgers. We walked away that night knowing that we had somehow stumbled upon a great friendship built upon shared passions, overlapping tastes in music, entertainment, and activities, and genuine, down-to-Earth conversation.

    The Proposal

Fast forward three years, one apartment, and one cat later – Scott and I went on vacation to the Philippines to visit my family this past July. On our last day in Palawan, we went on an all-day island hopping tour of Honda Bay. Our first stop was snorkeling on Starfish Island led by our tour guide. After snorkeling, we lined up to get our picture taken at a photo op spot before heading off to the next island. Scott ran to get his “wallet” from his backpack to tip the photographer while I got my picture taken. He rushed back, blindly handed his phone to a Japanese tourist who didn't speak English, and popped the question in front of a crowd of confused and unassuming international tourists. I said yes!
